English novelist and poet, best known for his trilogy of autobiogrphical writing, Cider with Rosie, As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning, and A Moment of War. The latter covers his time with the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War - in recognition of which, he was made granted Spanish citizenship in 1995.
