A small denomination with congregations in Scotland and Canada.
Lord Mackay of Clashfern, Lord Advocate for Scotland and also an elder in the Free Presbyterian Church, had attended the funeral Masses of two close Catholic friends, for which the Church suspended him from church office.
Some members of the Church felt the disciplinary action to be inappropriate; they wished to reassert the elements of the Westminster Confession of Faith regarding Christian Liberty of Conscience.
In 1989 they broke away to form the Associated Presbyterian Churches (APC).
