Dean is a specialist in the law relating to digital assets and the blockchain, encompassing cryptocurrency, non fungible tokens, and smart contracts. Dean is also an expert in other types of cyber law including cyber insurance and the intersection of between cyber and data law. Dean has written a number of textbooks on cryptocurrency and the blockchain as well as cyber security, cyber litigation and cyber insurance. Dean is also highly experienced in international insolvency work particularly those with a strong cryptocurrency element. Dean has a strong background in cases involving allegations of fraud and much of his work has an international aspect to it.

Dean is ranked in Band 1 of Chambers and Partners for cryptoassets and is the only silk to lead on commercial bar’s response to Law Commission’s draft on digital assets. Dean also advised on drafting of Virtual Asset Service Provider Rules.
